Even before the Locals Only Project had its official name, Native began looking for towns across America bound together by a unique sense of community—and killer opportunities for outdoor adventure. In 2011, that search led us to Hood River, Oregon. We used social media and local outreach to identify photographers and writers to help lead our journey, receiving support in the form of nominations, applications and plenty of votes. Once onsite, our winning locals captured every moment of the expedition and shared many of them online in real time—and when it was all said and done, collected enough photos and videos to create not only our annual consumer catalog, but an award-winning documentary short about the Columbia River Gorge.
But most importantly, our adventure laid the groundwork for an ongoing brand building program designed not only to create awareness for Native, but the people who fuel its spirit.
