As customers trend towards "showrooming" and brick-and-mortar retailers are faced with the challenge of making the best use of limited sales floor space versus actual products available in-store and online, our challenge was to create an experience that could augment the in-store experience and re-invent the way customers shop, learn and discover products with the smallest possible footprint. Holographic Home Bathroom Designer is the first of a series of HoloLens apps my team is creating to help Home Depot's Innovation Lab address these problems.
Consuming a the size of a single bathroom display, Holographic Home leverages room-scale holograms to allow customers to visualize professionally designed bathroom templates based on common interior design themes. After choosing a curated design and setting a budget, customers can virtually customize vanities, lighting, faucets, flooring and wall paint. After customizing the design to their personal taste and saving their design, the customer receives a SMS message with renders of their room, a shopping list and design inspiration to finish a welcoming space.
